Austin's Story

In 2006, Austin was diagnosed with a rare stage 4 cancer that only 9 children in the United States had ever been diagnosed with. At five years of age this young child was in for the fight of his life. He is the first one to survive this cancer at a stage 4.

Over the span of one year he underwent numerous surgeries, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and countless blood transfusions. The chemo treatments alone were so aggressive that Doctors knew it would be a miracle if he survived. During that year, most of Austin’s life was spent in the hospital. If he wasn’t being admitted for treatment he was being admitted for the horrible side effects he would experience from all the chemo drugs. He spent a lot of time being transitioned by ambulance, from one hospital to another, as he would need to be in isolation when his body was too weak to fight off infections. In that year, there were times when Destin and Wanda knew Austin was tired and it looked like he wouldn’t pull through. Each time at the darkest hour, God would bring Austin through and he would live to fight some more.

Partnering with family, friends, and churches across the nation, the Cook family embarked on a year of intense prayer, believing God for a miracle. After what seemed like an eternity God brought Austin through the fire and his cancer went into remission. We believe Austin has been miraculously healed and believe for God, each day, to sustain that healing.
